About GhostTube EVP
GhostTube EVP is an advanced voice recorder for paranormal investigators and video creators to conduct EVP session (electronic voice phenomena) free for download on Apple and Android. You can record regular voice recordings using only the microphone, or try our new experiment which combines microphone audio with audio signals modulated from interference detected by real sensors in your device. Advanced features exclusive for paranormal investigating include audio boosting so you don't miss any anomalies, audio tagging so you can tag moments of interest in your recordings, and voice activated system to make it easier to review your recordings.
What is an EVP?
Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) refers to the capture of disembodied voices or sounds on electronic recording devices, such as audio recorders or radios, that are not attributable to any known external source during the recording process. Often associated with paranormal investigations and the study of alleged hauntings, some believe these anomalous sounds represent the voices or communications of spirits, ghosts, or other non-corporeal entities. The phenomenon is characterized by short, often indistinct utterances or phrases that are typically only audible upon playback and are not perceived by the human ear at the time of recording. While skeptics often attribute EVP to radio interference, ambient noise, or psychological phenomena like pareidolia (finding patterns in random stimuli), believers maintain that these unexplained recordings offer evidence of communication from beyond the physical realm.
Conducting EVP sessions with GhostTube EVP
GhostTube EVP primarily uses the raw microphone in your device to help you conduct EVP sessions. Conducting an EVP session is the process of taking a short audio recording while asking questions or leaving the device running alone in a room, and then listening back to the recordings to see if there are any anomolous sounds present. GhostTube EVP provides useful features to help you review your recordings for potential EVPs, including sound boost, the voice activated system to automatically strip our silences, audio tagging to tag anomolous sounds and contamination, and a scrubbable sound visualizer to help you find anomalies. You also have the ability to adjust the audio sample rate to experiment with differing levels of audio quality.
Modulated EVPs (MEVP)
Modulated EVP is a new experimental concept coined by our team which refers to the combination of raw audio from the microphone with static and noise modulated from some form of external interference (i.e. magnetic interference). The experiment was inspired by traditional methods of conducting EVP sessions that relied on using old analogue recording equipment, namely, recorders that relied on writing data to magnetic tape. Prior to the introduction of electronic voice recorders, the main theories underlying EVPs proposed that spirits influence our environment in the form of electro-magnetic energy, and if true, could influence sounds recorded onto the magnetic tape.
When this feature is enabled, GhostTube EVP will modulate noise and static from the magnetic interference detected by the magnetometer sensor in your device and combine this with the raw audio captured from the microphone. This results in noise and static in your recordings which you can actually hear in playback, so it's completely normal and expected behavior to hear interference in your recordings.
Phonetic Modulation
Phonetic modulation is an optional feature when conducting a Modulated EVP session. When enabled, GhostTube EVP will use a table of common speech patterns and phonemes that make up language and synthesize these into sounds in realtime when specific magnetic signatures are detected. This, paired with the noise and static already being modulated, can sometimes sound like words.
However, it is important to note that unlike other tools and experiments, GhostTube EVP does not rely on snippets of radio, it comes with no pre-recorded sounds, and does not rely on any word dictionary - the phonetic sounds that are produced when using this feature are synthesized in realtime and only from a finite list of speech patterns in our proprietary codebook.
The DR60 Emulator
GhostTube EVP provides a fully functional emulation of the discontinued DR60 voice recorder. Discontinued in the 90s, these dated recorders originally attracted the paranormal community because of their voice activation system which could be used to record moments of interest, and drop moments of silence, making it much easier to review recordings. However, they've since become popularised through use on mainstream paranormal TV programs, and because of unique sounding artifacts often heard in recordings which some attribute to being paranormal in nature.
Unfortunately, due to their demand and their scarcity, the DR60 devices fetch thousands of dollars on online marketplaces like Ebay - until now. Our emulation closely matches the sample rate, bit depth, audio boosting features and voice activated system (VAS) of the famed DR60, so now you can try it in your investigations risk-free without spending thousands of dollars online. When using this feature, it is important to know that the audio quality will be poor - this is by design, because we're emulating a discontinued, dated recording device.

Can GhostTube really communicate with ghosts?
No paranormal device or app has been scientifically proven to enable communication with ghosts, or even the existence of ghosts. GhostTube is intended to assist paranormal investigators in their attempt to test theories of the paranormal, but is not intended as a tool for seeing and communicating with the dead or deceased loved ones and coping with grief or loss. We always encourage users approach every investigation with skepticism and to take a scientific approach (see tips below). Any perceived sounds captured in your recordings do not represent the official position or opinion of the developer and are not intended as instructions or requests.
Tips for investigating
Remember that just like any other paranormal tool, not every sound anomaly is necessarily paranormal in nature - Always consider your sorroundings for possible sound contamination. If using the modulation features, consider that the app will react to nearby sources of magnetic interference, including other electronic devices, magnets, metals and even fluctuations in the Earth's magnetic field. For this reason, we always encourage skepticism and offer serious investigators these tips regardless of the tools you're using:
- Always pair evidence with multiple tools and techniques rather than relying on a single tool for more compelling evidence.
- Understand how your tools work, and consider objects and conditions in your environment that could be triggering your equipment.
- Try to draw connections to documented fact and previous reports rather than assuming all output is a relevant response to your investigation.
- Never use the output of paranormal tools to make important life decisions, to cope with grief/loss, or interpret output as instructions or requests.
